Six mornings each week, Texas Crew members wake up at 4:45 am to head to a two-hour practice for the University of Texas club rowing team. We are a student-run competitive rowing team that strives to be the best in the United States. One hundred Longhorns consistently train to compete against schools across the nation, while also attending a full day of classes. Being the most competitive and prestigious rowing team in Texas, we consistently represent not only the university, but the whole state of Texas on the national stage. This past fall season, we competed and won several events against all the competitive collegiate rowing teams in the Southeast.
Despite these many successes, a major problem we encounter is funding. Club members are responsible for covering all of the organization’s expenses, and rowing, unfortunately, is a very expensive sport. A new boat costs upwards of $40,000 dollars, one member’s apparel costs at least $200, and travel to one regatta costs around $15,000 per team. A gift to Texas Crew will support an entire team of student athletes. It will support our dream to be the best collegiate rowing team in America.
On May 27th and 28th, we will be traveling to Gainesville, GA to compete at the American Collegiate Rowing Association National Regatta. There we will race against schools from across the country for the national title. This year we expect the strongest turn-out yet. Your support can allow Texas to be one of the strongest rowing teams in the nation. Our races are not won by us alone. We win because of donors like you who enable us to practice, to travel to regattas, and to win.
Congratulations to Texas Crew for winning the Mid Morning Stretch Challenge!
