School of Undergraduate Studies

The School of Undergraduate Studies (UGS) is the initial home for over 2,500 University of Texas at Austin students who are exploring several areas of study before declaring a major. UGS oversees the core curriculum and provides diverse programs and academic support to all UT undergraduates. So, by choosing to donate to one of our key initiatives, you are improving education across the Forty Acres for all UT undergraduates!

Understanding the importance of tutoring and learning assistance, Dr. Philip Sanger made a generous gift to create the Sanger Learning Assistance Fund in honor of his parents, Philip and Marjorie Sanger, and his aunt and uncle, Hortense and Morton Sanger. The Sanger Learning Center is UT Austin’s main resource for academic support. Each year, Sanger Learning Center helps more than 20,000 students achieve their academic potential. Once fully funded, the endowment will provide undergraduates access to a full-time strategic learning specialist. The specialist will be an advocate for students identified as requiring special accommodation for learning disorders and will focus exclusively on helping these students succeed academically.

The Vick Center for Strategic Advising and Career Counseling is a resource for all students across campus who are exploring majors and careers, as well as undeclared students enrolled in the School of Undergraduate Studies. The Vick Center helps students choose the right classes, identify goals, and plan out their four-year paths to graduation. Vick Center career counselors guide students to a rewarding career track beyond their time at UT. The Vick Center offers services that are crucial for students to succeed at UT and in their futures.

Bridging Disciplines Programs (BDPs) allow undergraduates to earn certificates in a secondary area of specialization that complement a major. To earn a BDP certificate, students must complete 19 credit hours combining interdisciplinary coursework with hands-on research, internship, or creative experiences. Students become more flexible and versatile thinkers, prepared for a professional world that values collaboration and innovation. Students in the BDPs also gain access to unique research and internship experiences at UT and around the world, giving them hands-on experience applying what they have learned in the classroom.
