New Student Services
Help support new and incoming Longhorns!

New Student Services’ mission is to lead students through their transition to the university community. We provide programs and resources that lay the foundation for students to achieve academic and co-curricular success. Along with planning and implementing orientation sessions, New Student Services offers scholarships and programs that support students during their time at the University of Texas at Austin.

Horns Helping Horns

Horns Helping Horns serves independent students who arrive at UT Austin with little or no family support and very limited resources. Every Horns Helping Horns student is unique, so the program strives to provide social and educational opportunities, a network of financial and nonfinancial support, and mentorship based on individual needs. A faculty or staff mentor and a small peer group offer guidance to help students navigate campus life. The objective is to foster academic success and a sense of community.

Horns Helping Horns helps students by:

  • Furnishing rooms
  • Purchasing textbooks and supplies
  • Providing mentors to lend moral support and advice as well as help with logistics such as shopping
  • Offering social events that contribute to a sense of community

Depending on available funding, Horns Helping Horns may also offer:

  • Supplemental financial aid
  • Assistance with computer needs or problems
  • Asisstance with unmet medical, dental and optometric needs
  • Supplemental assistance with meals

Horns Helping Horns ensures that our students have the same opportunities as their peers to experience and benefit from all the resources, amenities and connections that UT has to offer.
