We are Longhorn Powerlifting, a student-run sport club that focuses on empowering students with strength, discipline, hard work, and dedication. We not only lift heavy weights in the gym but lift up our fellow team members through constant encouragement on and off the platform. Here, our friendships are forged with iron.
We consist of about 85 student members, a number that has steadily increased over the past several years. Both our men's and women's teams are top contenders for the collegiate national title each year. Our Men's team claimed two national championships in the last three years, and the Women’s team won the 2016 Collegiate National Championship this past year, making a total of 11 National Championships in the past 50 years!
Over the years, our lifting gear and equipment has consisted of hand-me-down suits and singlets, and our once shiny, silver barbells have become rusted, bent metal that still manages to get the job done. DL8, our biggest lifting space is shared between other classes, so we are forced to practice late at night to get our training done. Our other space, the “Closet”, so aptly named is about the size of half a Jester dorm room. Through 40 for Forty and your help, we will be able to fundraise money to obtain the lifting material deserving of 11 time National Champions.
