Chances are that you already know what wushu is if you've seen movies such as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon or featuring actors like Jet Li and Jackie Chan. Even actors in The Matrix and Star Wars learned wushu for their performances.
Wushu, which means "war arts" in Chinese, is the broad term for all Chinese martial arts. The term "Kung Fu" has a long linguistic history. Kung Fu (lit. "energy" and "time") means acquired skill due to the great amount of energy and time required to master the art. Kung Fu can be used to describe any attained skill from martial arts to cooking to business. Kung Fu became associated with martial arts because it was traditionally believed that it took ten years of intense practice to master a martial art.
As the University of Texas’s Wushu Club, we work together to discipline our minds and bodies to exemplify the values and techniques of Chinese martial arts. We perform for various student organizations and events throughout the year and send members to national competitions.
