School of Undergraduate Studies

The School of Undergraduate Studies (UGS) is the initial home for over 2,000 University of Texas at Austin students who are exploring several areas of study before declaring a major. In addition, UGS oversees the core curriculum and provides diverse programs and academic support to all UT undergraduates. So by choosing to donate to one of our key initiatives, you are improving education across the Forty Acres for all undergraduates!

Your support for the Paul Woodruff Professorship for Excellence in Undergraduate Studies provides funds for improving the undergraduate core curriculum, developing interdisciplinary certificates that modernize degree plans, connecting first-year students with UT’s most distinguished faculty, and more. This fund was created to honor the vision and dedication of the inaugural dean of the school, Dr. Paul Woodruff.

Understanding the importance of tutoring and learning assistance, Dr. Philip Sanger made a generous gift to create the Sanger Learning Assistance Fund in honor of his parents, Philip and Marjorie Sanger, and his aunt and uncle, Hortense and Morton Sanger. Once fully funded, the endowment will provide undergraduates access to a full-time strategic learning specialist. The specialist will be an advocate for students identified as requiring special accommodation for learning disorders and will focus exclusively on helping these students succeed academically.

The Vick Center for Strategic Advising and Career Counseling is a resource for all students at UT exploring majors and careers, not only those enrolled in the School of Undergraduate Studies. The Center helps students pick the right classes, identify goals, and plan out their four-year academic paths to graduation. The Center also focuses on guiding students to a rewarding career track beyond their time at UT. The Vick Center offers services that are crucial for students to succeed at UT and in their future careers.
