School of Social Work

Support the School through one of these five initiatives:

Join your fellow alumni, students, and Longhorn friends – the 40 hours may come and go, but your collective impact will last forever. It’s time to make a difference.

Hearing Voices Simulation

  • To increase empathy and education for those living with auditory hallucinations, two professors are raising funds to purchase equipment to conduct the “Hearing Voices Simulation” with their BSW final field students.
  • Fundraising goal: $800

Social Work Council Food Pantry

  • The Social Work Council represents the students at the School of Social Work campus-wide, assists in fundraising for groups and agencies in Austin, and sponsors the food pantry in the student kitchen at the School.  This food pantry provides snacks and meals for students who do not have the time or ability to access food while they are at the School.
  • Fundraising goal: $1,000
  • Giveaways: Individuals who donate: $10 will receive a UT Social Work bumper sticker, $25 will receive a t-shirt, and $50 will receive a long-sleeve shirt or pullover.

BSW Licensing Fees

  • The DiNitto Center for Career Services is dedicated to providing the highest level of innovative services to students, alumni, and employers.  One of these services is assisting in the testing for licensing exams.  The cost for the Texas LBSW exam is $361, which can be a financial obstacle for our BSW students in their final semester in school.  A license provides BSW graduates with more career opportunities and a higher starting salary.  A gift during 40 Hours for the Forty Acres will support 5 BSW students in taking the licensing exam.
  • Fundraising goal: $1,805

Social Work Alumni Network (SWAN) Scholarships

  • The SWAN Board brings alumni closer to the School and provides student scholarship.  This year, SWAN was able to expand their reach to two students, with hopes to grow to three yearly scholarships, including BSW.
  • Fundraising goal: $2,000
  • Giveaways: Each individual who donates a minimum of $40 will receive the newly designed alumni t-shirt.

Institute on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (IDVSA)

  • The expert witness project
  • The IDVSA advances knowledge of interpersonal crimes through education, research, and public service.  Funding the expert witness project builds capacity in two ways: Providing a year-long research fellow position ($600/semester) and presenting at a national conference to provide information and training on expert witnessing in crimes of interpersonal violence ($3,800).
  • Fundraising goal: $5,000
  • Giveaways: All donors will receive recognition on the IDVSA website.  Individuals who donate $50 or more will receive a personalized thank you letter from a student research fellow.  Individuals who donate $500 or more will have the opportunity to enjoy lunch with Dr. Noël Busch-Armendariz and her team.
