College of Natural Sciences

The College of Natural Sciences is one of the largest colleges of science in the United States, with a community of more than 13,000 undergraduate and graduate students.  The college is a major source of future scientists, doctors, mathematicians, technologists, educators and entrepreneurs.

At the Heart of Campus, we are working on a New Welch Hall. Research is the core of the College of Natural Sciences, and UT’s largest academic building, Welch Hall (formerly the Chemistry Building), has played a role in educating Longhorns for eight decades. These Longhorns have made an impact in industry, academia and government. Welch Hall houses chemistry and biochemistry researchers, large lecture halls, Freshman Research Initiative labs, and more. It hosts 10,000 or more students every day and is in need of updating. Planned renovations at the heart of campus will be a beacon and an intellectual home for the best faculty and students, dedicated to improving the world through their science. Your gift makes this next chapter of innovation possible.

Units of our college are also raising funds for Gearing Hall, the John Ring Lamontagne Center for Infectious Disease, and the iGEM team. Gearing Hall is a home to the School of Human Ecology and iGEM stands for the International Genetically Engineered Machine, the premier student competition in synthetic biology.
