College of Pharmacy

Students know to expect nothing short of an exemplary education in both the classroom and laboratory from The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy.  What comes as a surprise to some; however, is the depth of learning that takes place beyond the classroom.

This year, the College of Pharmacy is focusing its 40 Hours for the Forty Acres campaign on two major learning opportunities for students beyond the classroom – our New Student Orientation and travel opportunities to attend professional meetings.

Read below how these two opportunities have made a major impact on our students:

A Great Start

New Student Orientation was the most important part of my transition into College of Pharmacy. Through the experience, I was able to meet the deans, my professors, my classmates, and other students within the college. I also met four ladies during the process that soon became my closest friends at the college. We have been friends and study partners ever since, and I look forward to walking across the stage with them and the rest of our class in May 2018.

Broader View of Pharmacy

I entered pharmacy school at a crucial point in our profession. Amid issues such as provider status, enhanced pharmacists’ roles on a healthcare team, and outcomes based care, my development into a pharmacy professional was greatly influenced by the experiences I had beyond the walls of our college. I received financial support to attend the American Pharmaceutical Association 2015 Annual Meeting, the Texas Pharmacy Association (TPA) Annual Meeting, and the TPA Leadership Symposium. In these venues, I learned to voice my value as a future pharmacy professional and advocate for our profession. These opportunities have helped cultivate my passion for the profession of pharmacy, and I believe that it is because of these experiences that I and all other student pharmacists in our college are better prepared for careers as health professionals. The continued support for student travel to professional meetings allows us to gain insight concerning the practice of pharmacy in other geographical areas and helps all of us become better informed, more well-rounded pharmacy professionals.
