The College of Liberal Arts offers more than 50 majors located in 22 academic departments and more than 30 centers, institutes and programs. In every discipline, we emphasize the importance of understanding history, society and culture to help students better understand and thrive in the world beyond campus.
Experiential learning helps students creatively apply classroom concepts to real-world situations. Hands-on opportunities in study abroad, internships, research, and community service in turn allow students to incorporate experiences back into their studies and ultimately into successful career choices.
Areas of Greatest Need:
Study Abroad:
The knowledge gained from study abroad is becoming increasingly critical in our global community. It is desirable to employers, and can be a life-changing experience for students. We encourage all College of Liberal Arts students to make time in their academic career for study abroad, whether for a month, summer, one semester, or whole year.
Internships give students who are preparing to enter the job market a valuable opportunity to apply what they’ve learned to real-world situations, while employers benefit from the work of engaged, creative students who are trained as critical thinkers, strong communicators and problem solvers.
Since the majority of internships—almost 75 percent—are unpaid, you can also help students afford internship opportunities by contributing funds to help with living expenses, travel and other costs associated with unpaid internships.
Institute of Mental Health Research (IMHR):
The Anxiety and Stress Clinic at the IMHR is dedicated to providing high quality and affordable individual and group therapy for a variety of anxiety and stress-related disorders to the Austin community. Our treatment services are designed to provide effective psychological care in a compassionate environment to members of the University of Texas campus and general public.
Services are provided by faculty-supervised doctoral students in UT’s highly ranked Clinical Psychology doctoral program, and on a limited basis by licensed psychologists. The clinic is affiliated with the Anxiety and Health Behaviors Laboratory at the Institute for Mental Health Research.
We are committed to providing a top-tier education, conducting groundbreaking research, and preparing young minds for the world is central to the history and future of The University of Texas.
