The University of Texas Dance Team is the competitive dance team at the University of Texas that goes and represents the university on a national scale at the National Dance Alliance (NDA) competition in Daytona, Florida. We are an organization under RecSports and we compete annually at two competitions and various performances around campus. We compete at the NDA summer camp to allow us to be eligible for nationals, where we received the honor of a "silver bid," as well as the American Dance/Drill Team Society (ADTS) regional competition in Denton, Texas to prepare us for NDA. We also host our own winter showcase and perform at various other events around campus and the Austin area. At ADTS, we receive critiques on our performances that we apply to our pieces before we travel to Florida and compete in the largest collegiate dance competition with the hopes of becoming national champions. Last year, we won our division in Hip Hop at ADTS, and we finaled in Jazz and placed 10th in the country overall at NDA.
We are a fun and accomplished group of young women who, astoundingly enough, are very diverse when it comes to our studies at UT - there are team members studying everything from Engineering to Business to Psychology to English, on top of commitments to other clubs, volunteer organizations and sororities. We all came to UT with our unique passions and goals, and our shared love for dance brings us together and forms our tight-knit group.
Unfortunately, because we are not under the athletic program at our university every member of the team has to pay their own way to nationals every year. This includes the round trip plane ticket to Florida and back, competition fees, choreography fees, music editing, and costumes for both the jazz and hip hop pieces we compete. These necessities can add up very fast, which is why we need your help!
We are so thankful for any gift given, and everything you give will be put to our nationals expenses. We are always aiming to better our selves, our team, and other fellow Longhorns, and with your help, you are making it much easier for us to focus on our passion and sharing that passion with our university and community! Thanks for reading about our story and goals for the year! And, of course, HOOK'EM!!!
