Who We Are
The Natural Sciences Council (NSC) is the official representative organization of the College of Natural Sciences (CNS) at the University of Texas at Austin. We are an organization dedicated to serving the CNS student experience, improving the college, and representing the diverse voices of our community. I am reaching out to you to gauge your interest in supporting us and our goals.
What We're Fundraising For
In line with our purpose, the Natural Sciences Council has a strong history of events, scholarships, and other initiatives that your support can aid. These include our Endowment Scholarship, an annual award given to individuals in the college who demonstrate dedication to and work within diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, K-12 education programs such as Kids Who Code and Young Scientists, in which council members help elementary and middle school students in the greater Austin community discover the joys of science, and Natural Sciences Week, a celebration of the over 12,000 students in the College of Natural Sciences and the many experiences, identities, and aspirations that they embody.
Your Impact
Every gift/donation will provide us with the support we need to further amplify the unique voices and concerns of the College of Natural Sciences (CNS) student body that want to pursue numerous avenues of post-graduate opportunities. With a council makeup of student representatives across all majors in the college and other well-established CNS organizations, NSC truly represents a holistic overview of the UT Natural Sciences community.
"I love the camaraderie all of council have! Everyone is always willing to lend a helping hand if you simply ask. Whether it deciding what course to take or a silly question you have there is always someone willing to listen."
"I love that NSC allows me to have a real impact on the students in the College of Natural Sciences, and the welcoming and passionate NSC community makes that experience even better."
"One of my favorite initiatives is Curie Diaries. Curie Diaries is an event where students are invited to speak with CNS faculty members that identify as women or non-binary about their experiences as a gender minority in the STEM field. This event is empowering, as it promotes gender inclusivity in STEM, and allows professors and students to connect on a more intimate and personal level about their experiences. Curie Diaries is especially important to me as a woman in CNS; being able to casually talk with faculty about their unique experiences and seeing other students do the same was inspiring and made me hopeful for the future of CNS, and the field of STEM as a whole."
"As a participant of Kids Who Code, I find that the lessons are easily digestible for a variety of middle schoolers, and these lessons are created purely through the ingenuity of our CI members. I find that Kids Who Code give children who are interested in coding the prime opportunity to begin their exposure without the complexity and difficulty that high school courses tend to exhibit. The intricacy of the high school course may inhibit the development of stronger interest within coding work due to the tediousness of assignments."
