What is 40 Hours for the Forty Acres?

40 Hours for the Forty Acres is The University of Texas at Austin’s annual day of giving. For 40 hours, UT alumni, students, faculty, staff, parents and friends come together to support the people, places and pursuits that mean the most to them, amplifying their impact through the power of Longhorn Nation.

When is 40 Hours for the Forty Acres? 

This spring’s 40 Hours for the Forty Acres will kick off at 6 a.m. Central on Wednesday, April 10 and end at 10 p.m. Central on Thursday, April 11.

Why should I participate in 40 Hours for the Forty Acres?

Gifts provide critical support for people and programs across The University of Texas at Austin. Donors fund student scholarships, support the work of our outstanding faculty, and change the world through our pursuits of education, research and service. Whether you’re able to give $5 or $500, you are making an immediate difference for the students, faculty and programs that change the world.

Can I give to more than one area?

Yes! You can make multiple gifts at one time. As you check out one gift, make sure to select "Add a Donation" on the gift menu to select the other areas you would like to support. Your card will only be charged once for the sum of your donations.

How do matches and challenges work?

Matches and challenges are time-sensitive, rules-based opportunities to make your donations go further. Each challenge and match is explained on the 40 Hours for the Forty Acres page. For full rules and explanations, see the Match and Challenge Rules.

Where do the challenge funds come from?

Challenge funds are generously donated by members of UT’s Development Board and other leadership donors.

How do I donate?

Make your gift online at 40for40.utexas.edu during the campaign. When the campaign is live, you can click the "Give Now" button at the top of the website. If you've reached this page before or after the campaign, please click here to make your donation.

When will my card be charged?

Your credit or debit card will be charged immediately after you make your gift.

What if I don't see my school or organization on the list?

If you do not see the school, organization or program that you would like to support, please select "Area of Greatest Need" to give UT the greatest flexibility, or choose "Other” and indicate in the comments field where you would like to direct your gift.

Do you accept matching gifts from my employer?

Absolutely! Click here to find out if your employer matches gifts.

What does my gift support? 

It’s up to you! More than 200 UT programs and organizations participate in 40 for Forty, so there are plenty of good causes to choose from. Whether your heart is with your college or school, or you have an interest in a specific research initiative or student program at UT, you are free to choose what your gift supports. When you make your gift, you can select from a list of participating groups.

Is there a maximum donation amount?

There is a $99,000 maximum donation amount on the online giving page. If you wish to donate more than that amount, please contact the Texas Gift Operations team at 1-866-4UTEXAS (488-3927).

Who should I contact if I have a question about my gift?

Are gifts tax deductible?

Yes. Gifts are 100% tax-deductible. You will receive a tax receipt within 7-10 business days.
