Help support the national team’s campaign through the 2022-2023 competitive season! After winning back to back Men's and Women's Team Championships at the 2021 and 2022 U25 National Championships, the team is preparing for its busiest competitive season yet! A record amount of funds were raised during the 2021-2022 school year that helped send over a dozen team members to the 2021 NAO Finals in Denver, CO, the 2022 University National Championships in Columbus, OH, and the 2022 U25 National Championships in Las Vegas, NV. This year will feature national team members competing at the first ever Southwest Regional University Championships in Austin, TX; the 2022 North American Open Finals in Atlanta, GA; the 2023 University National Championships in Columbus, OH; and the 2023 U25 National Championships (location TBD). This school year will also feature the first time a UT weightlifting team member represents TEAM USA internationally! The funds raised over the next two days will support those team travel expenses and the further growth of the team!
The University of Texas Weightlifting Team formed in 2016 as a collection of students that shared an interest in the Olympic sport of weightlifting and has since developed into a nationally competitive team! The team has grown each year from its three original members in 2016 to over 30 active members in 2022! The UT Weightlifting Team has increased its national team contingent each of the last six years and has produced multiple medalists in the last two years at the Junior National Championships, University National Championships, and Under 25 National Championships. The team has also collected three national team trophies in the last year, including Men's and Women's national titles at the 2021 U25 National Championships.
The team is officially sponsored by the Department of Recreational Sports and coached by former UT exercise science majors utilizing evidence-based, research-backed practices learned as students in the Kinesiology Department. The team is comprised of students from all areas of the university, including engineering, business, nursing, kinesiology, mathematics, biology, philosophy, and computer science.
The money raised through this crowdfunding campaign will address the immediate needs of the program that consist of travel to major national competitions, lodging, uniforms, and meet entry fees.
While the sport of weightlifting is an original Olympic event, it is not currently an NCAA sport. As there is no presence in the NCAA, funding from major universities is scarce. The students of the University of Texas Weightlifting Team have been working to create a program that provides student-athletes in weightlifting with athletic opportunities on par with contemporary collegiate athletic standards.
Your generous donations have been directly responsible for the team's ability to travel to national competitions to compete against their peers and showcase the fruits of their training. Your past support has been essential to the growth and success of our team and your continued support is vital to our future success! Thank you for your generosity and belief in UT Weightlifting!
