Women in Informatics

Who We Are

Women in Informatics at The University of Texas at Austin (WiInfo) is a community of Informatics students (majors and minors) and faculty at the University of Texas at Austin dedicated to promoting awareness of the School of Information’s new undergraduate program and creating a strong network that attracts and supports female students through outreach initiatives, academic support, professional development, and social events. 



What We're Fundraising For

Our organization is fundraising for the empowerment of women in the emerging field of Informatics. The Informatics major was launched at the beginning of Fall 2021 as a way to provide students with the knowledge of analyzing information from a user-centric perspective, intersecting the disciplines of people, technology, and data. Our organization was created to uplift voices of future powerful female leaders in this field and provide them with the support and community they need to succeed. Our organization will use funds to promote and encourage participation of women in the Informatics field. We will provide engaging opportunities for members to understand one another and build lifelong friendships.



Your Impact

A donor’s gift to our organization will have a huge impact on the lives of the members of Women in Informatics and the Informatics community as a whole. Since our organization is so new, we rely on the generosity of those around us to give back to the members of our organization. The money that we will receive from donors will help us define the future of our club for as long as it is active; being trailblazers for women in the field of Informatics is a responsibility that we do not take lightly. We pride ourselves on reaching out to and bringing established women in tech who are pioneers in their fields to speak and provide inspiration to our members. Any money received will be put towards essential tasks such as education, bringing in more speakers, and increased outreach; we have been so blessed to have so many fellow students approach us and tell us that they are interested in our major and that they admire how our organization has created such a close-knit community. At the Women in STEM launch party event in February 2022, we set up a table for our organization and introduced so many women to the field and major of Informatics, raising interest for our program. These kinds of events would benefit from donors and help us fulfill our goal of creating a widespread and inclusive community for women in Informatics.
