Who We Are
The University of Texas Women's Rugby Club is a student-run club team affiliated with the University of Texas at Austin. Founded in 2005, Texas Women's Rugby has quickly made a name for itself. In the past 5 years, we have attended national-level tournaments in both 7s and 15s. Most recently and most prominently, our 7s season of Fall 2021 was a huge success, having us finishing 1st in our conference in an undefeated season! Additionally, we have had record recruitment numbers that will only lead to the further success of our club! We hope our fundraising will provide our vets and rookies alike with both higher quantity and higher quality training and play, so we can continue to build our competitive rugby family!
What We’re Fundraising For
During 40 Hours for the Forty Acres, the Texas Women’s Rugby team aims to raise money for the growth of a sport that allows young women to realize their full potential mentally and physically. This year, our goal is to raise $3,000 to put towards new equipment, travel expenses, and financial aid to those who would otherwise not be able to play. We believe that every woman deserves an equal chance to perform to her full potential, and don't want finances to be a barrier in playing the amazing sport of rugby.
Your Impact
With your generous donations to our club in past fundraising events, we have been able to make strides in providing for and supporting all of our team members. Your continued support will allow for better opportunities for our players, help grow our team, and empower young women.
Equipment - We were finally able to replace our tackle bags that had definitely seen better days(and less duct tape), as well as replacing our rugby balls that had lost most of their grip over time. Additionally, we acquired agility poles and a scrum sled, all of which will provide higher quality trainings to our players!
Travel – Last season we were unfortunately unable to host any of our 7s tournaments at home. With this being the case, we ended up travelling more than we had hoped, and will likely have to travel more this semester as well for our 15s season. Especially with growing numbers(which we are very happy about), our costs for travel are increasing. Your support keeps us competing!
Financial Aid for Players - We understand that finances are often a hinderance, especially for college students already paying for school. There are unavoidable fees for our players to be allowed to compete, and to keep our club running, but we do not ever want to say no a young woman looking to play rugby. This is counterproductive on the individual level, and to the growth of women's rugby overall. You are playing a role in helping us help women reach their fullest potential through rugby!
Trainers – The physical well-being of our players is top priority. A trainer is a necessary addition to our practices and competitions to ensure everyone is given the proper attention and care their body needs. Rugby is a full-contact sport, and injury-prevention and oversight is key. You are keeping our players safe!
