Women's Water Polo

Who We Are

Women’s Water Polo is a competitive club sport at UT that competes in both regional and national tournaments. Our organization offers the opportunity for anyone: from experienced players, to those who have never tried the sport to get involved with water polo. We train four times a week at the Texas Swim Center building strength and refining skills to better ourselves for each tournament. While our season is primarily in the spring, we practice in both the fall and spring semesters to maximize our potential as a team in competition, and to create a welcoming social group for those involved.

What We’re Fundraising For

The most important costs for Water Polo that we fundraise for are pool space, traveling for tournaments, and nationals at the end of the spring semester. The Texas Swim Center costs about $2,500 a semester for our organization to rent for practice space, and this is crucial to our team because we cannot achieve our competitive goals without the ability to train regularly. Furthermore, travelling to tournaments typically requires budgeting for gas, housing, and entry fees for several weekend-long tournaments. If we are successful in our season and compete in Nationals, then we will have to travel by plane to another state to participate, and this means we will need to pay for rental cars and hotels as well. Even if we do not qualify for Nationals, it is important that we raise money for all tournaments so that players’ dues do not increase, and our organization can remain affordable to all who are interested in joining.

Your Impact

The donations our organization receives are impactful in keeping our membership dues low so that Water Polo is an affordable activity available to a wide range of students. In keeping dues low, we have a greater opportunity to train a large, successful team so that we can represent UT well in competitive tournaments. Not to mention, this team has given so many of us a strong social group that has supported each other through the ups and downs of college. With the funds we are given, we have created a space that promotes close friendships and strong athletes. We are grateful for this opportunity, and we hope to continue to raise money so that our organization can maintain the costs for participation that we have required in the past.
