Questions and Answers

Below you will find answers to many common questions about 40 Hours for the Forty Acres 2020.

What is 40 Hours for the Forty Acres?

Now in its seventh year, 40 Hours for the Forty Acres is an annual university-wide fundraising event that encourages everyone in the UT Austin community to give to the UT people, places and programs that are meaningful to them. For 40 hours, students, alumni, parents, faculty, staff and friends come together as a community and show their support.

When is 40 Hours for the Forty Acres?

40 Hours for the Forty Acres will start at 6 am on September 15th and run through 10pm on September 16th.

Why should I participate in 40 Hours for the Forty Acres?

Philanthropy has become an increasingly critical part of the university’s support. It funds many scholarships for students who otherwise would not be able to attend college and supports the university’s top-notch faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and hands-on learning opportunities for students. Giving back is one of the greatest things we can do for our university and for future Longhorns. Whether you can give $5 or $500, you are part of Longhorn Nation, and you can help make a difference.

Can I give to more than one area?

Yes, you can make multiple gifts when you check out. Make sure to select "Add a Donation" on the gift menu to select the other areas you would like to support. Your card will only be charged once for the sum of your donations.

How do challenges and matches work?

Challenges and matches are time-sensitive, regulated incentives to make your donations go further. Each challenge and match is explained on the 40 Hours for the Forty Acres page. For full rules and explanations, see Challenge & Match Rules.

Where do the challenge funds come from?

Challenge funds were generously donated by members of UT Austin's Development Board and others.
