Who We Are
The Astronomy Students Association (ASA) is founded on the principle of spreading interest in astronomy. Our goal is to promote astronomy and to flourish throughout the university as a learning community. For astronomy majors, we also serve as an academic resource in promoting departmental opportunities and events.
Our weekly meetings typically consist of research talks, astronomy news, advice panels, and lectures from special visitors involved in the world of astronomy. When we are not hosting a speaker, our meetings may consist of social events like game and movie nights. We conduct regular astronomy outreach events at K-12 schools, local state parks, and other venues.
What We're Fundraising For
We are fundraising to provide support for our undergraduate astronomy students and students across campus that find interest in the world of astronomy.
In collaboration with the physics organizations, we host an annual Prospective Students' Day where admitted high school students are welcomed onto campus and introduced to the astronomy and physics departments. For freshmen astronomy and physics students, we also host a Welcome Week where new students can gain advice from older peers and learn more about the department(s) they will be spending the next four years in.
As an organization, we run the Astronomy Mentorship Program (AMP) that pairs underclassmen with upperclassmen mentors to guide new students through the department and to learn about careers, research, and more.
Your Impact
Donating to the Astronomy Students Association will not only benefit the current astronomy students but the astronomy students of the future. Money from this fundraising campaign will help fund our student mentorship program, provide funding for our meetings, and support social outreach events for the undergraduate population. Donations will also benefit the broader community by supporting ASA as we strive to make astronomy accessible to the public. This will come in the form of outreach events for UT Austin students and public events in the local area.
