Who We Are
The Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Science (SLHS) is home to undergraduate, professional, and doctoral research programs that explore the science related to speech, language, hearing, balance, and swallowing processes and seek new and effective ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat communication disorders. The UT Speech and Hearing Clinics housed within the department support Audiology and Speech Language Pathology teaching clinics that serve the public. Student clinicians work under the supervision of clinical faculty. The clinics provide a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic services to infants, children and adults.
What We're Fundraising For
This initiative is to generate funds to support patients and/or their families who fall below the federal poverty guidelines and have no insurance. Most of these patients are unable to pay the fees for speech, language, and hearing clinical services. A significant percentage of our patient population is indigent and will go without critical speech and hearing services, if such funds are not available. Because of the lack of health insurance, these individuals are unable to obtain services outside the University of Texas at Austin. Thus, UT Speech and Hearing Clinics are able to provide much needed services to indigent people residing in Greater Austin area. The speech and hearing services are critical to enhancing educational and job opportunities for children with developmental disabilities and adults with acquired impairments.
Your Impact
Your gift will be used to support provision of speech, language, and hearing clinical services to patients/families without insurance and those with limited income. This gift will not only help support treatment for indigent populations but also provide clinical educational opportunities to students who work with patients and their families.
