Who We Are
University Health Services (UHS) is a fully accredited on‐campus medical facility dedicated to serving UT Austin students.
Our committed staff provides healthcare, public health leadership, and multispecialty services designed to safeguard and enhance the health of students while supporting the overall well-being of the Longhorn community.
Services
UHS is a comprehensive medical facility that offers students access to:
In our role as public health leaders, UHS conducts special clinics across campus, immunizing thousands of students, faculty, and staff annually. We also respond to emergent health issues such as outbreaks of contagious illnesses like COVID-19, mumps and influenza.
UHS professionals collaborate with campus partners to enhance students’ wellness and safety, both in Austin and during study abroad. Working with professionals at the Longhorn Wellness Center and other partners, UHS addresses priority health and wellness issues, including exercise, sleep habits, stress management and high‐risk drinking.
Facility
University Health Services occupies over 45,000 sq. ft., spanning the entire 1st and 2nd floors, as well as parts of the ground and 3rd floors, of the Student Services Building.
Our Fundraising Need
During the 2022-2023 academic year, UHS providers hosted 56,171 visits and served 20,575 unique patients. Consultation and screening services for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) are one of the most common reasons students seek services at UHS, with nearly 2,000 visits last academic year for testing alone.
To address this, UHS established the “Get Yourself Tested (GYT)” fund in 2018, removing potential barriers, including financial ones, for students seeking STI screenings. The fund covers the full cost of STI testing at UHS, including the $10 office visit fee and any necessary confirmatory testing.
Even with limited advertising, GYT funds are quickly exhausted each year, historically benefiting 57% of students who were tested for STIs for the first time.
A follow-up survey from March 2020 revealed high levels of satisfaction:
The GYT program is not budgeted annually, so once the fund is exhausted, there are no university funds to provide free STI testing for students. UHS recognizes how critical these funds are to ensure a student’s access to important healthcare.
Your Impact
Your gift made to the GYT fund will sustain this vital resource, ensuring its availability to students most in need.
