Help support the team's competitive season by assisting us in raising $20,000 for competition expenses through the rest of the 2024 calendar year! The 2023-2024 school year has already seen the University of Texas Weightlifting compete at two major events thanks to funds raised in the 2023 Fall HornRaiser. The team secured both men's and women's team titles at the 2023 Southwest Regional University Championships in San Marcos, TX last November, and took 14 competitors, the largest national team to date, to the 2024 University National Championships in Columbus, OH last month! The funds raised over the next two days will support the team travel expenses for the 2024 U25 National Championships in Pittsburgh, PA in June, and the 2024 Southwest Regional University Championships in the Fall (location TBD)!
The University of Texas Weightlifting Team formed in 2016 as a collection of students that shared an interest in the Olympic sport of weightlifting and developed into a nationally competitive team! The team has grown from three original members to over 30 active members in 2024! The team has qualified a larger and larger team to University Nationals each of the last seven years, and has produced multiple national medalists every year since 2020. UTexas members have medaled at the Junior National Championships, University National Championships, Under 25 National Championships, American Open Finals, the Senior National Championships and on the international stage! The Men's team has won three consecutive U25 National team titles, while the women were team champions in 2021 and 2022!
The team is officially sponsored by the Department of Recreational Sports and coached by former UT exercise science majors utilizing evidence-based, research-backed practices learned as students in the Kinesiology Department. The team is comprised of students from all areas of the university, including engineering, business, nursing, kinesiology, mathematics, biology, philosophy, and computer science.
The money raised through this crowdfunding campaign will address the immediate needs of the program that consist of travel regional and national competitions, lodging, uniforms, and meet entry fees.
While the sport of weightlifting is an original Olympic event, it is not an NCAA sport. As there is no presence in the NCAA, funding from major universities is scarce. The students of the University of Texas Weightlifting Team have been working to create a program that provides student-athletes in weightlifting with athletic opportunities on par with contemporary collegiate athletic standards.
Your generous donations have been directly responsible for the team's ability to travel to national competitions to compete against their peers and showcase the team's hard workt. Your past support has been essential to the growth and success of our team and your continued support is vital to our future success! Thank you for your generosity and belief in UT Weightlifting!
