Who We Are
The Moody College of Communication prioritizes the pursuit of bold visions and brilliant solutions that influence how the world connects today and tomorrow. Our students explore the areas of advertising and public relations; journalism and media; communication studies; speech, language, and hearing sciences; radio, television, film; and communication and leadership.
What We’re Fundraising For
Thank you for visiting the Moody College of Communication fundraising page! While our equipment fund is our greatest area of focus this year, please know that a donation to any of our initiatives, departments, programs or centers is valued and greatly appreciated.
The Moody College Equipment Fund is a brand-new initiative created to make sure that our college is able to keep up with the many different kinds of equipment that our students, faculty and staff need to continue to innovate and practice on the leading edge of communication. The ability to access modern equipment being used in industries around the globe removes an immediate financial barrier for many of our students and provides them hands-on opportunities that they would otherwise miss out on due to the prohibitively expensive nature of some of the items we work with in our disciplines on a daily basis.
Our students are working on critical research in the science of speech, language, and hearing on our campus, as well as learning how to record, edit and mix audio for film, podcasts and radio and TV broadcasts. They are capturing and calculating data for media campaigns and are designing creative pitches to advertise for companies around the globe. With our move to the Southeastern Conference later this year, we will be adding more focus on sports media and the experiential learning opportunities that will grow out of this great new opportunity.
Between the Moody College of Communication Equipment Checkout, located in the William Randolph Hearst Building, that allows the checkout of equipment for academic purposes, and our robust Texas Student Media programs, which includes The Daily Texan, Bevo Video Productions, the Cactus Yearbook, KVRX Radio, TSTV, The Drag Audio Production House and Texas Travesty, which are actively producing and publishing content on a daily basis, our needs are great.
Outside of our people who use equipment, we also have physical places that are in need of significant updates. All of our majors are able to use the equipment in the Moody College in some way, and our studios in the Jesse H. Jones Communication Buildings A and B and the William Randolph Hearst Building are available for their use. Many of these physical spaces contain lights, cameras, and recording and production equipment that are 12-14 years old. In order to provide our students with experiential opportunities while they are learning and training with us, it is necessary for us to have the equipment being used in the field.
In an effort to be as sustainable as possible, this fund will also provide our college with the ability to maintain and repair the many types of equipment that we have on site: photo and video cameras, microphones, lights, cables, audio recorders, mixers and more — while allowing our college to be flexible enough to pick up emerging technologies as we grow into the future.
The Moody College of Communication Area of Greatest Need is a great way to ensure your gift makes an immediate impact. This flexible fund provides a safety net for our college as we hear of needs across our communications community.
