Who We Are
The Student Engineering Council serves as the voice of the engineering student body and hosts events to engage the Cockrell School community. SEC has 6 internal and 3 external committees. Academic Affairs connects students with faculty. Engineering Activities creates a social community among engineering students. Service leads initiatives to give back to the Austin community and beyond. Society of First-Year Engineers fosters a community of first years as student leaders. Publicity advertises events and initiatives. Marketing Analytics collects feedback so SEC improves. Our three external committees are EXPO, the engineering career fair, Cockrell School Cares, who hosts a campaign to raise awareness about mental health and DEI, and Technology Development.
What We're Fundraising For
Every holiday season, our Service committee prepares and distributes care packages. Last December, SEC curated and hand delivered 18 care package baskets to Dell Children’s Medical Center. Filled with everyday utensils, clothes, and other necessities, our goal is to spread smiles and provide support to hospital patients with the care packages. Winter Care Packages are made possible through SEC funding and the goal has always been to expand the scope and size of this event to serve more people in need. By involving more volunteers and funding to create more care package baskets, we hope to inspire engineering students to continue impacting their community through selfless acts of service. The purpose of DEI Grants is to monetarily assist events or outreach initiatives that promote the important topics of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) throughout Cockrell School. SEC strives to create a welcoming environment for all engineering students through various celebrations of our human differences. SEC hopes to champion the You Belong Here campaign, which is a commitment to building an inclusive environment in Cockrell School, by accentuating existing and funding new DEI events. With hopes of establishing an annual Diversity Celebration event and continuing to aid the growth of diversity in engineering programs, we aspire to establish increased funding and support available for DEI related initiatives in Cockrell School.
By fundraising as a part of the 40 Hours for the Forty Acres campaign, we hope to increase our impact throughout and beyond Cockrell School. Funds raised for Winter Care Packages will result in the creation and distribution of more care packages to more patients in more than one hospital. With the wonderful gifts you provide during this campaign, we can spread more joy to patients and their families who spend their holidays in hospitals. Funds raised to support DEI Grants will result in improved and new celebrations of diversity across Cockrell School. Improving the support for existing events like BESTEM and new events like the Diversity Celebration will promote inclusivity throughout Cockrell School and improve the engineering experience for students of all backgrounds. Acts of kindness have untold potential of reach when amplified by the goodwill of donors like you. Whether you choose to donate in support of Winter Care Packages or DEI Grants, every penny raised will go directly to positively impacting students and the larger Austin community. Thank you to all donors for supporting the Cockrell School of Engineering and beyond.
