Who we are? 

The William P. Clements, Jr. Center for National Security draws on the best insights of diplomatic and military history to train the next generation of national security leaders. Established in 2013 with the support of distinguished policymakers and scholars, the Clements Center is a nonpartisan research and policy center uniquely positioned in the Office of the President. The Clements Center carries forward former Texas Governor and Deputy Secretary of Defense Bill Clements’ esteemed public service legacy by:

• Teaching students how to integrate the wisdom of history with current challenges in national security and prepare for careers as policymakers and scholars   
• Supporting Research on history, strategy, and national security policy 
• Convening scholars and policymakers to improve our understanding of history, statecraft, and national security

What we are fundraising for? (What do gifts to the Clement Center support)

The Clements Center strives to forward its mission of training the next generation of national security leaders by mentoring undergraduate students through an engaging year-long fellowship program. Throughout the academic year we also host student-led discussions, a study abroad program in London, professional development funding and our Certificate in Security Studies. 

Similarly, we also offer master’s and doctoral students mentorship opportunities, unique courses, research grants and academic certification in national security through our Portfolio program. The Clements Center also supports the wider UT community through fellowships, sponsored research, public and private lectures, forums and conferences on national security, history and statecraft.

Your Impact

Sponsorship of Clements Center programs and initiatives will support the Center to reach each of its four primary constituencies: students, scholars, policy professionals and citizens. Your contribution will directly impact the University of Texas by helping to mentor undergraduate students, fund a doctoral scholar, and support Clements Center's annual history and statecraft lecture series, collaborative conference and symposia. Gifting to the Clements Center will also help specialized programs including the London Maymester program for exemplary UT undergraduate students and the Summer Seminar in History and Statecraft for advanced doctoral students, or aid in the development of new and innovative student programs.
