The Native American and Indigenous Studies Program (NAIS) at UT invites you to support the work of our undergraduate and graduate students. Through our academic programs, we offer students the opportunity to learn and engage with cultures, languages, and histories of Indigenous Peoples at the local, regional, and international level. NAIS is also a supporting space for indigenous students and in this way NAIS enhances the diversity at UT.
Support NAIS Internship for Undergraduate Students in the Community. We invite you to support the new NAIS Internship for undergraduate students. In 2017, we established the first NAIS Internship through Great Promise for American Indians, which annually organizes the renowned Austin Powwows. Besides continuing this engagement with Great Promise, this year we are also starting another NAIS Internship for students to be part of the Indigenous Cultures Institute’s summer camps in San Marcos; for this, NAIS will provide students financial help for meals and transportation.
Support NAIS Summer Graduate Research and Conference Grants. NAIS provides summer research fellowships for graduate students every year. Through these grants of up to $1,500, NAIS provides MA and PhD students enrolled in the Graduate Portfolio program with the opportunity to travel to conferences, archives, and/or research sites to both present and conduct research on indigenous issues.
Support the Indigenous Arts Fest. Launched in 2017, this student-led initiative takes place every fall. This indigenous arts initiative explores and celebrates the traditions and innovations of indigenous cultural creativity by featuring native writers, artists and performers from the United States, and North, Central, and South America. By enabling the broad community in Austin and Central Texas to participate, the Indigenous Arts Fest makes a significant contribution to ethnic, cultural and artistic diversity.
