Who We Are
Launched in December 2021, the Center for Psychedelic Research and Therapy at Dell Medical School is leading much-needed breakthroughs in mental health treatment. Backed by UT Austin’s research acumen and support from community members like you, we are the only institution exploring the combination of psychedelic drugs and brain modulation technologies, such as transcranial magnetic stimulation, to treat veterans and families living with PTSD and other stress-related disorders, adults experiencing prolonged grief disorder or depression, and people who have experienced childhood trauma.
This center is the first of its kind at a university like UT Austin — and with your support, what starts here will change mental health care for people around the world.
What We're Fundraising For
Today, we aim to raise $75,000 to fund a critical study on using psychedelics to treat combat veterans and Gold Star spouses for PTSD and traumatic grief.
Your gifts will support participants’:
- Travel to Austin for evaluation before and after treatment
- Bloodwork, neuroimaging and psychological testing at UT
- Travel to our partner treatment center, Heroic Hearts Project, in Latin America
- Psychedelics treatment and psychotherapy
Will you join us as some of our first supporters of this newly launched, innovative center? Your gift will be doubled until we reach our goal, thanks to the generosity of UT alum and Dell Med supporter Paul Barnhart III.
In Central Texas alone, there are more than 250,000 veterans, many of whom are facing mental health challenges because of military service and combat exposure. Often, veterans and their families feel they’ve exhausted all options for mental health treatment — without significant or lasting relief. In addition to paving the way for a revolution in mental health care, this study will provide new hope and healing for some of our nation’s bravest service members and their families.
Patients from our partner treatment centers share:
“Psychedelic medicine has been an absolute blessing in my life. I’ve been given the gift of returning home to my true self.” —Nick N., Former Navy SEAL
“My treatment allowed me to process the invisible wounds I had piled up inside during my husband’s time in the military. We have wounds that run deeper than you would expect, even without boots on the ground overseas. I only realized this after my first treatment. It saved my life, my marriage and ultimately my children’s lives.” —Allison W., Veteran’s spouse
