Who We Are
The Center for Global Business is working to craft the next the next generation of global leaders by advancing global business acumen and engagement throughout McCombs and UT with international teaching, research, and connections with global alumni. Our Strategic Roadmap outlines our efforts in greater detail, but in short we are enhancing both academic and experiential aspects of global readiness to our students by offering a greater a variety of international courses, increasing the depth of students’ study abroad experience, and offering international internships. We support students pursuing majors and minors in International Business at McCombs and across the university through hands-on advising, mentorship programs, and career support.
Why We’re Fundraising
We work to enhance the global awareness and knowledge of our faculty and students, and we are seeking funds to cover the cost of hosting prominent speakers on campus, creating international events that connect our global alumni with McCombs and UT, and – most of all – helping our students meet their international goals. This support is essential as two issues are particularly pressing for students returning to campus after the pandemic:
First, because our students come from multiple colleges at UT, they can find it harder to meet, connect with, and learn from one another. We would like to host more informal events, help students show pride in their interests with branded clothing and accessories, raise awareness of international degree plans through awards for outstanding academic performance and service, and foster a sense of connection and belonging. Attracting resources for these efforts will help us enhance our students’ sense of community and amplify the impact of our programs.
Second, we work to ensure that our students to get the most from international experiences such as study abroad and international internships, by helping them overcome financial and logistical challenges. We also constantly strive to introduce new services that connect students with global alumni mentors and introduce them to exchange students currently visiting UT. These efforts help them learn more about their destinations beforehand, arrive abroad with existing contacts, and understand global business practices as they begin their careers.
Your Impact
Our students and their enthusiasm are the best demonstration of our impact:
"Within a semester, I quickly felt supported by McCombs staff and introduced to fellow IB student students. The Center’s support, community, and academic opportunities (new IB programs, classes, etc.) are all greatly valued and appreciated."
"As an IB major at McCombs, your career goals and classes are different from everyone else, so I am excited that efforts are being made to help create a stronger community for IB majors."
"After a year of being away from the UT Austin campus, I am excited to be closer to the community that made me into who I am today. I’m a full-time intern working internationally, and this certificate/minor has helped me immensely with this employment opportunity. Thank you [to the Center] for making the Global Management program so inclusive and holistically useful even in this time that looked different than we planned."
By donating to the Center for Global Business, you will help us raise the level of awareness of international business at McCombs and UT, enhance the quality of international programming across campus, and increase the value of students’ experience abroad. Your contribution will help more students incorporate international knowledge, experience and perspective into their academic journeys and foster a sense of community among internationally-minded students. Please consider supporting the Center for Global Business and its students today!
