Who We Are
University Health Services (UHS) at The University of Texas at Austin provides healthcare and public health leadership to support UT students in reaching their optimal health so they can achieve their academic and personal potential.
UHS belongs to the 11% of student health centers in the United States that are accredited either by AAAHC, the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, or the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Few primary care doctor’s offices in Austin have this distinction.
During the 2019-2020 academic year, UHS hosted nearly 60,000 student visits by 20,000+ unique patients through our clinics and ancillary services including general medicine, urgent care, 24/7 nurse advice line, women's health, sports medicine and physical therapy, x-rays and ultrasounds, an in-house clinical laboratory, allergy shots, immunizations and travel health, STI testing, and nutrition services.
Highly utilized clinics during the 2019-2020 academic year included general medicine (21,000+ visits), women’s health (nearly 9,000 visits), and allergy and immunization (nearly 6,000 visits).
The high-quality medical facility is staffed by licensed professionals including physician assistants, nurse practioners, and board-certified physicians practicing in the areas of family medicine, internal medicine, sports medicine and women’s health.
Additionally, throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, UHS staff worked hand in hand with several other campus departments and the greater Austin community to provide care for students impacted by the virus, COVID-19 testing (symptomatic and asymptomatic), and COVID-19 vaccinations.
What We’re Fundraising For
UHS is committed to offering affordable health care to UT students and is raising funds to offer UT students with limited financial resources some options to help reduce the cost of services. About 28% of students who seek healthcare at UHS each year are uninsured, well above the national average. A lack of health insurance may prevent students from seeking important healthcare while they are young, potentially leading to further complications down the road.
Your Impact
Healthcare costs are often an unbudgeted expense for students who are sometimes working multiple jobs to meet their basic needs. Your gift will help UT students with limited financial resources receive financial assistance for healthcare services at UHS, which frees them up to get and stay healthy without the burden of wondering how to pay for that care.
