Who We Are
The Department of Statistics and Data Sciences (SDS) became the College of Natural Sciences' newest department in August 2014. The department grew from the Division of Statistics and Scientific Computation (SSC) that was established in 2007 to address an urgent need for new statistics courses and research support throughout UT. The mission of the Department of Statistics and Data Sciences is to be a world-class center for statistical science that advances scholarship across the university and prepares UT graduates to flourish in an information-rich world. In pursuit of its mission, SDS is a thriving academic home for undergraduates learning critical data analysis skills, graduate students advancing science through applications of modern statistical methods.
What We’re Fundraising For
Supporting our students is important to SDS. This year we developed a leadership award honoring one of our well- deserving students to be chosen in the spring. This leadership award, named after Vicki Keller, a former Director of Strategy and Planning in the Department of Statistics and Data Sciences, rewards students who have demonstrated exceptional scholarly excellence and leadership. Vicki Keller originally joined SDS when it was called the Division of Statistics and Scientific Computation and had continued to be a pivotal point in the success and growth in the department and it's programs. We want to honor Vicki by naming this award after her and honor the students who exhibit strong initiative, leadership, go above and beyond and support others along the way.
Gifts from donors will have significant monetary impact on our hardworking students as well as recognition in receiving the leadership award.
