Who We Are
Founded in 1923, Texas Orange Jackets (OJs) is one of the oldest honorary service organizations on campus with a membership of women and nonbinary folks dedicated to upholding the tenets of service, leadership, scholarship, and community. We are a service organization that serves as official hosts of the University of Texas at Austin. Orange Jackets membership devotes itself to serving the university, Austin community, and supporting individual members’ initiatives. We spend countless hours volunteering at The Settlement Home for Children, our primary philanthropy for over two decades.
What We’re Fundraising For
About a year ago, the Tap Class of 2019 decided to work to support the undocumented community at UT and within Austin. This fundraiser aims to raise money to support undocumented students through the Monarch Student Program. All funds raised will go directly to this program.
Monarch’s mission is to provide academic, personal and professional development to undocumented students through program advising, mentoring, and workshops. They partner with the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement, the International Office, the Counseling and Mental Health Center, and the University Leadership Initiative to support current UT students. Their staff is committed to providing these services with the utmost confidentiality to protect student’s identification. They aim to be allies who help raise awareness and advocate for the academic rights of undocumented students at the University of Texas at Austin.
Every dollar that is raised will go directly towards supporting undocumented students. There are over 1 million undocumented people living in Texas, who face vast burdens both financially and socially. Attending school and financing an education is a huge burden that you can help current students face with your donation.
Last year, we were able to raise almost $40,000 to complete a permanent endowment that will award a yearly scholarship to a self-identifying female student. This year we hope to match that, or more, in our support of the undocumented community. "
