While the COVID-19 pandemic has presented new challenges to health care professionals across the world, our mission to educate the next generation of nursing professionals remains steadfast and our students stand ready to tackle issues affecting the health of our communities.
What We’re Fundraising For
Our Area of Greatest Need supports a wide variety of areas within the School. As we urgently transitioned to the online curriculum, this flexible fund ensured that we were able to make this shift in a timely manner while maintaining the same level of support for students, faculty, and staff.
For more than 20 years, The School of Nursing Wellness Centers have put education and research into practice by providing direct health care services to the under-represented and uninsured of Central Texas. Amid this pandemic, our mission has not changed but it has evolved. This fund helped us effectively transition to telemedicine where possible and has continued to maintain a stock of much-needed personal protection equipment (PPE) for in-clinic appointments. We are also proud to share that, since December 2020, our Wellness Center faculty, staff and students have partnered with various areas around campus to administer COVID-19 vaccinations as part of the UT Austin vaccine hub.
Throughout these challenging times, the Learning Enhancement and Academic Progress (LEAP) Center stood ready to support student curriculum by expanding our existing digital educational tools such as Innovative Video Exams geared to transforming students from pupil to educator, and Peer Academic Coaching (PAC) staffed by top-performing nursing students or registered nurses working on an advanced degree.
Student Services continues to empower students to achieve their dreams beyond academics through professional development, peer mentorship, and solidarity among our cohorts. Amid COVID-19, this fund ensured virtual services were quickly implemented to continue offering vital student support such as academic advising, resume-writing workshops, mock interviews and job search seminars.
