Help support the national team’s campaign through the 2020-2021 competitive season by chipping away at the anticipated team travel costs of $8,100! The University of Texas Weightlifting Team will be competing at national competitions in Atlanta, GA for the 2020 American Open Finals and Columbus, OH for 2021 University National Championships!
Who We Are
The University of Texas Weightlifting Team formed in 2016 as a collection of students that shared an interest in the Olympic sport of weightlifting and has since developed into a nationally competitive team. The team has grown each year from its three original members in 2016 to over 20 active members in 2020! The UT Weightlifting Team has also increased its national team contingent in each of the last five years and has produced multiple medalists at the last two University National Championships!
The team is officially sponsored by the Department of Recreational Sports and coached by exercise science majors utilizing evidence-based, research-backed practices learned as students in the Kinesiology Department. The team is comprised of students from all areas of the university, including: engineering, business, nursing, kinesiology, mathematics, biology, philosophy, and computer science.
What We are Fundraising For
The money raised through this crowdfunding campaign will address the immediate needs of the program that consist of travel to major national competitions, lodging, uniforms, and meet entry fees. The team will send members to the 2020 American Open Finals in Atlanta, Georgia (December 2020), and the 2021 University National Championships in Columbus, Ohio (March 2021)!
While the sport of weightlifting is an original Olympic event, it is not currently an NCAA sport. As there is no presence in the NCAA, funding from major universities is scarce. The students of the University of Texas Weightlifting Team have been working to create a program that provides student-athletes in weightlifting with athletic opportunities on par with contemporary collegiate athletic standards.
Your past support has been essential to the growth and success of our team and your continued support is vital to our future success! Thank you for your generosity and belief in UT Weightlifting!
