McCombs Social Innovation Initiative (SII)

Who We Are

The Social Innovation Initiative (SII) acts as UT-Austin’s hub on campus for innovation in social and environmental impact. The center is housed in The McCombs School of Business, and thus focuses on corporate sustainability, social entrepreneurship, impact investing, and ESG investing. The SII strives to cultivate a world where business professionals can create economic value for their organizations while shaping a circular, regenerative economy that benefits all stakeholders. We reach students and community members through experiential learning programs, courses, community events, career support, and research.

What We’re Fundraising For:

The Longhorn Impact Fellowship at Texas McCombs, or LIFT, is an experiential learning program that matches upperclassmen and graduate student consultants with companies, social enterprises, and nonprofits to solve sustainability or impact problems. Student consultants, with the backing of a faculty advisor and community coaches, work with an interdisciplinary team from across campus for about 50 hours a semester. LIFT is not only a win for students who gain invaluable skills in consulting, impact, and sustainability - it is also a win for clients who receive free support for costly projects and access to a talent pipeline. In fact, after the first two semesters of LIFT with 33 students and 10 clients, 100% of participants reported that they would recommend the program to a friend, and clients reported an average value per project of $11,000. Our campaign will seed a “LIFT Fund” to pay future consultants stipends and enhance their experience. Students like Timia, Allie, and Alexis need your support!

Learn more about LIFT here:

https://www.mccombs.utexas.edu/Centers/Social-Innovation-Initiative/LIFT

Your Impact:

Now more than ever, students need meaningful hands-on learning experiences that can be fulfilled from the safety of their homes and can help offset financial burdens. The SII would like to provide future LIFT consultants with a stipend to attract a wider range of student talent, and ease the burden of joining an extra-curricular project while juggling school and work. Please help us reach our goal of $50,000 to distribute to at least 50 LIFT student consultants in the ‘20-’21 school year. All donors will receive a picture of the Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 cohorts, as well as a story about one student beneficiary’s LIFT journey.
