Who We Are
The Association of Black Computer Scientists mission is to provide mentorship, networking, and growth opportunities to Black students pursuing a career in tech. The organization works to build and empower members of Texas Computer Science and the broader Black community to pursue technology related education and careers. We hope to inspire and equip the next diverse generation of thoughtful technologists! We are open to all allies, anyone who supports our mission, and those curious to learn more about technology. We are like a big family and anyone looking for a fun and inviting community is welcome!! Company partners come to our general meetings and talk to students about internships, career opportunities, navigating the professional world and so much more!
What We’re Fundraising For
We are raising money to send more ABCS members to Afrotech, a conference for Black people in tech. Afrotech is so important because undergraduate students are able to see themselves through the successful Black people representing the companies attending Afrotech. We are able to make connections, find mentors, and attend workshops that are specific to the struggles Black individuals face in the tech world.
Students that had the opportunity to attend Afrotech last year through the scholarship of some amazing companies and the students all were very grateful for this learning opportunity. Some things students had to say about the trip included "I enjoyed listening to talks from renowned speakers who look like me!" and "Everyone has a story and can be an amazing resource, I took the chance to network with all the great people I met". Sending more students to Afrotech would help them increase their self-confidence, make new connections and elevate their overall professional skills. Our organization depends on the generosity of companies and donors to make an inviting environment for our students full of happiness!
