Who We Are

The College of Liberal Arts offers more than 50 majors located in 22 academic departments and more than 30 centers, institutes, and programs. In every discipline, we emphasize the importance of understanding history, society, and culture to help students better understand and thrive in the world beyond campus.

The liberal arts have never been of greater importance. They prepare our students to face extraordinary challenges, to be creative and adaptive in changing situations, to think critically about our best paths forward, to lead with empathy and a dedication to serve others. Our students learn from faculty whose research seeks to improve lives in Texas and around the world, to advance our understanding of the human condition, and to promote equity and justice.

What We’re Fundraising For

Graduate Student Support
The quality and success of any major research university depends, in large part, on its graduate students, who serve as vital connections between an institution’s teaching and research missions. Graduate students work closely with faculty in advancing knowledge in the lab and in the field. They are also important mentors to undergraduates, drawing on their own research and scholarship to teach undergraduates. Collaborating with faculty and undergraduates alike, graduate students come from every part of the nation and the globe, providing infusions of new knowledge, skills and perspectives that elevate and enrich our environment of learning and discovery. A major research university cannot function without them.

Office of Student Success
The Office of Student Success (OSS) enriches the learning experience of Liberal Arts students by fostering community and developing future leaders and scholars. The OSS offers opportunities for students to connect with one another, to excel as academics, and transition from community college into university life.

Undergraduate Experiential Learning
A well-rounded liberal arts education requires experiential learning through internships, undergraduate research, and study abroad. Students are given the opportunity to discover new personal strengths, conquer new challenges, and develop skills that go beyond the classroom. Experiential knowledge makes our students increasingly more valuable in competitive job markets within national and international spheres.
