Even the best student writers sometimes struggle to learn the unique language of communication professionals. To ease that transition, the Moody Writing Support Program provides the assistance of peer writing coaches in every communication major. Students come to us to brainstorm story ideas, work on structural problems or polish their grammar. We’re ready to help whether they are writing their first news story, revising a press release or polishing that final screenplay.
Since our program began five years ago with funding from the university’s Student Success Initiatives, students have booked more than 7,000 appointments with us. We had more than 1,000 appointments this fall alone, which was a 30 percent increase over each of the previous two fall semesters.
Our greatest challenge is to meet the increasing demand for our services. That’s where you can help. Anything we raise from 40 Hours for the Forty Acres this year will allow us to expand the staff of peer writing coaches and to host workshops for students that reinforce writing skills needed in their specific field.
Everyone working for the Moody Writing Support Program embraces our mission of boosting students’ skills and encouraging them to succeed. Your contribution will allow us to continue helping all students clear the path to making their professional dreams come true.
