The University of Texas Weightlifting Team is a collection of UT students that train, travel, and compete together. The team formed three years ago as a collection of students that shared a similar interest in the Olympic sport, and has developed into a competitive team. The team has grown each year and recently returned with some hardware from the USA Weightlifting University National Championships in Las Vegas, NV!
While the sport of weightlifting is an original Olympic event, it is not currently an NCAA sport. As there is no presence in the NCAA, funding from major universities is scarce. The students of the University of Texas Weightlifting Team are looking to organically create a program that will provide student-athletes in weightlifitng with athletic opportunities on par with contemporary collegiate athletic standards.
The money raised through this crowdfunding campaign will address the primary immediate needs of the program that consist of travel to major national competitions, meet entry fees, and lodging. In addition, money raised will help support the team’s growth by providing uniforms, purchasing additional equipment, and providing professional athletic training services to student athletes.
The team is officially sponsored by the Kinesiology Department and advised by Dr. Kim Beckwith. The team is coached by exercise science majors utilizing evidence-based, research-backed practices learned as students in the Kinesiology Department. The team is comprised of students from all areas of the university, including: engineering, business, nursing, kinesiology, mathematics, biology, and computer science.
Your support is essential to the growth and success of our team. Thank you for your generosity and belief in UT Weightlifting!
