Texas Taekwondo

We practice Olympic-style Taekwondo sparring, also known as Sport Taekwondo. This style of Taekwondo is what is featured in the Olympic Games. Our club is open to all skill levels. We also represent the university at both the national and international level.

Tournaments

Every year we compete in multiple tournaments, many of which are sanctioned by USA Taekwondo, the national governing body for Taekwondo. Every spring, Texas Taekwondo sends a team of competitors to the National Collegiate Taekwondo Association Championships, a USAT-sanctioned event for collegiate Taekwondo practitioners of all levels. We have recently begun to expand our presence in the taekwondo community by sending fighters to the US Open, one of the largest – if not the largest – international competitions for Taekwondo fighters across the globe. Texas Taekwondo has also begun to send fighters to US Team Trials, which is one of the highest levels of competition as well as a path to making the US National Team. These elite tournaments allow us to represent the University of Texas on an international level.

Gear

In order to compete in tournaments and keep our fighters in peak condition it is critical that we have the gear we need to train. The sport of Taekwondo has recently undergone a switch to electronic scoring. These scoring systems require special equipment such chest protectors, helmets, and protective socks with electronic sensors on them. This gear can be expensive, but in order to represent Texas to the best of our abilities, it is crucial that we train with this equipment in order to be ready to use it in the ring.

Kicks 4 Kids

In addition to practicing at UT and attending tournaments, Texas Taekwondo hosts a class for children at UT Elementary School. We teach the children the same curriculum that our coach teaches us during our practice, and they even have a tournament at the end of the semester. Coaches voluntarily travel to the school each Friday afternoon to pass on their knowledge of taekwondo to our students. Kids involved in the program often come back for multiple semesters, and often bring their friends or siblings to participate with them. To provide the best experience possible, we provide students with snacks, uniforms and gear each semester.

You can keep up with our club through our various social media platforms!
