Founded in 1980, Texas Ballroom is one of the University of Texas at Austin’s few ballroom dancesport organizations. We hold weekly classes throughout the school year where we teach students, faculty, and staff many styles of dance that include ballroom, social, and country. We strive to create as many opportunities as possible to meet the needs of our members, from weekly socials to monthly variety dances to larger events like our annual ball or collegiate ballroom competition.
Our Competition Teams
In 2013, Texas Ballroom revived the Ballroom Competition Team. Over the course of that year, the team experienced immense growth, allowing a second team to be created: the Country Competition Team. Both teams compete at national level competitions across the country where many of our team members receive high recognition and marks.
Country Competition Team
Over the past semester, several Country Team members competed at Nationals and Worlds where three became National Champions and two become World Champions. Texas Ballroom is excited to see what this year has in store for the team in the newly begun season.
Ballroom Competition Team
The Ballroom Competition Team will travel to MIT’s collegiate competition in April. MIT's event is the largest collegiate ballroom competition on the East Coast, attracting competitors from all over. MIT is a wonderful place for our members to showcase their skills.
Austin Open
Hosted by Texas Ballroom, Austin Open is the largest collegiate level ballroom dance competition in the state. Austin Open encourages dancers of all levels to enhance their skills, experience competition, and publicize the art of dance to the community. Independent dancers, dancers from local studios, and collegiate teams across the state, including SMU, A & M, Rice, and Texas Tech, compete at Austin Open.
