Short Intro:
Texas Running Club is the official organization for club runners at the University of Texas at Austin. We are sponsored not only by the University of Texas, but also by the Recreational Sports Club division (www.utrecsports.org) and the National Intercollegiate Running Club Association (NIRCA).
We strive to promote health and fitness through building a recreational running community at the University of Texas and provide a gateway for marathon and road race training.
Description:
We believe running is a bonding experience. Therefore, we invite any UT students, faculty, or staff to become a part of our growing group. Texas Running Club serves all types of runners. Goals range from training for 5Ks and sprints at the Intramural Track Meet to completing in marathons and half-marathons every year. We understand training for a race can be difficult and therefore TRC tries to provide a friendly and supportive environment for every runner to reach his or her goal.
Accomplishments of our own members after training with the club include: over 10 national qualifiers for the NIRCA (National Inter-Collegiate Running Club Association) cross-country meet, annual Boston qualifications, several intramural track meet event champions, 3 years in a row college division winners at the Silicon Labs Austin Marathon Relay, multiple male members with a sub 3:00 marathon time and multiple girls with a sub 3:15 marathon time, top 10 finishes for the Texas Independence Relay, and several other personally distinguished records being made every semester by our runners themselves.
During the school year, we meet every weekday night in front of Gregory Gym (times vary during the semester). A typical run club day usually consists of splitting up into different pace and distance groups that will run 3, 5 or 7-8 miles. The route will be delivered either by the Vice-President (head running captain) or one of the co-running captains present that day. Routes are varied in all different directions and can include areas such as North Campus, Shoal Creek, or Town Lake. On Saturday mornings, we will be conducting long runs which are at least 10 miles long. Throughout the school year, TRC will keep you informed about local races around the Austin area. In addition, we will provide opportunities in which club members will be able to compete as a single team such as the Texas Independence Relay. We also compete every year in the Intramural Track and Field meet in the spring semester.
Fundraising Initiative:
Texas Running Club is a UT RecSports-sponsored club with growing membership, and we strive to make the club accessible to all students with affordable dues. We accommodate a variety of runners ranging from members who are currently chasing personal bests to those who are just now beginning their running journey. We pride ourselves in our ability to attract members of all running backgrounds to promote general fitness at UT, and we offer fun, bonding opportunities ranging from club camping trips to 200+ mile relays. As we gain active members every year, these activity costs increase, so we need your help!
